Lot of people on my facebook community had a question, should I work or go to college? Many people who have been following my writing over the years probably know the answer to this question, I am not a big believer in college education. I do believe in education but NOT the institutionalized education.
Going to a library, picking up a book, attending a seminar, listening to audio and video programs from gurus who’ve been there done that has given me
more value than going to college and listening to a phd who’s never done what he’s preaching but only read about it in books is plain stupidity.
Lot of very successful people have said only a few courses they took in college actually helped them. Most of their learnings have been in their business or their job. Even world famous businessman and investor Warren Buffet said “Business schools take simple things and make them complex whereas in real life the opposite is true.”
I believe I have personally learned much more on a job and in business than in college.
My advice is plain and simple, If you want to be mediocre then go to college otherwise get a job and start a business on the part time. Once your business requires your full time presence then you can quit your job and focus on your business fulltime.
Remember, when searching for a job like Brian Tracy said “find a boss who you admire and respect.”
It does require a lot of courage to be unconventional and do things different from the majority of society. Mark Twain said “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”
Hope this helps. Give us your comments in the comments section below.
