I was watching Wimbledon the other day and I am a great sports fan. I seek lot of inspiration from the field of sports.
If you observe some of the greatest sportsman in the field of sports, it may not always be extraordinary talent that sets them apart from the rest of the competition. It is their ability to follow a plan with discipline.
Whether it was Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, Michael Jordan or Mohammed Ali, the common string between these great champions was discipline.
Michael Jordan said “Talent is easy, everybody has talent. But ability requires hard work.”
Brian Tracy went on to say “The world is filled with talented people who are failures.” So bottom line, don’t fall into the trap of the myth that says you need to be extraordinarily talented to succeed. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
To be the best in your chosen career, you need to do 4 things:
1. Have a plan
Imagine constructing a house without a plan. It’s going to be chaos. That’s what most people’s lives are, it’s either chaos or it’s heading nowhere!
2. Associate with positive and successful people
Have zero tolerance for negativity of any kind. Start meeting successful people. If you don’t know anybody, start reading and commenting on their blogs, you’ll at least connect with them virtually.
3. Set goals
Brian Tracy said “An average person with goals will run circles around an extraordinarily talented person without goals.”
There is so much truth to that. So write down your goals. In fact, write them down right now and share it with us in the comments section below.
Too lazy to write down your goals? Then, forget success.
Your mind might say “I’ll write it down later.” Shake off that self-defeating thought and get to work now. In fact, just do it in spite of whether you feel like it or not. It might just be the beginning of a new revolution.
4. Focus on continuous learning.
Spend at least 30 minutes a day learning something new. The most successful people in the world are people who are continuously learning and growing.
It could be a training program, a book or attending seminars, I don’t care. Lot of people tell me “Vinil, I don’t have the time.” Well, you brush your teeth everyday, you have breakfast everyday, you have a shower everyday, most people even watch TV everyday. My point is, if it’s really important to you then you have to make time for it. You just don’t have an excuse. Excuses are for losers and you are not one of them.
Your homework for today, Write Down Your Goals. Tells us how they went in the comments section below.
