After putting together a powerpoint presentation for investors, I sent out the presentation to a list of investors. I made a list of about 190 investors and I sent it out to the entire list.
About 60 – 70 emails bounced back and several of them sent me an email stating that my particular business does NOT fit into their investment focus.
I got a sort of interested reply from IAN (Indian angel network). Their email read:
Thanks for sharing your proposition.
After an internal round of vetting, we noticed a few gaps. We would like you to embed your responses to the following in the presentation itself and send us a revised one:
- Current stage of the venture / Milestones achieved so far
- Marketing strategies/ Customer Acquisition Strategy
- Detailed Competitive analysis – list down your direct and indirect Competitors and contrast the offerings
- Differentiators/USP
I revised my presentation and sent it back to them again. I then got another email from them that read:
The following feedback has been received from the team:
- Concerns about marketing strategy persist
- There were concerns on the aspects of scalability.
- Requires to strengthen the differentiators
On the basis of the above feedback, we would be unable to progress this on the IAN platform.
These look like valid points, but in terms of scalability, I definitely think this business is scalable. Maybe, I need to work on my presentation to communicate my vision more clearly.
My next task is to work on my presentation. I researched the internet to find some good articles on raising capital. I found a great article written by Tim Young who raised $10 million in 365 days for 2 companies in 3 rounds of financing. This article has some really good insights, Tim shows how he used just 5 powerpoint slides in his investor presentation. To read the article, click here.
In the next few days, I am going to go through Tim Young’s article in more detail and try to put together a better presentation for investors.
For today, that’s pretty much all I have.
