Android’s Capability to Cash in on Apps

The number of Android tablets that have been launched has increased dramatically over the last year and the Android market is spoilt for choice when it comes to apps. However, tablet owners are increasingly realizing that many of these apps are designed specifically for larger equipment. Even though certain apps that are written for Smartphones are functional on tablets, they do not fully optimize the utilization of the larger display screen provided on the tablets. Unfortunately, the developers of apps are unable to write apps that are designed for two platforms and are therefore increasingly turning to developing apps for the iPad.

In case of Android tablets, there are far too many versions of hardware which makes it extremely difficult to make the Code function effectively. Certain tablets run Snapdragon processors while others utilize Nvidia Tegra processors on which Code has to work successfully for all. This effectively increases the cost for development as well as support. Developers find it easier to support a single hardware along with one OS rather than trying to develop apps for the vast Android world.

The advantage of retail is also crucial as to why the Amazon Appstore as well as iTunes have been able to turn many users into customers who pay. This is because of the easy option for making payments. Any app that needs to be purchased would require only one click in order to buy and then download. With the Android market and the Google Play, however, there is no requirement for information on payment. This places developers in a position of disadvantage with regards to trying to hawk purchases in-app. The main reason for discrepancy between the revenues of Amazon’s Appstore and Google Play could be that many users do not want to take the time to enter customer information.

Google needs to resolve the problem that exists with Android fragmentation. It is important that all tablets should uniformly be able to run latest versions of their software without any discrepancy. The developers looking to cash in on apps for Android could use the surfacing of Amazon into the market as an inspiration. It is important for Google to reassess the plan that revolves around Google Play to keep the interests of developers piqued.
